Whats next then? Kutotembea mchana nyakati za kazi?
There will be no more playing of the immensely popular pool games in pubs during working hours because the activity was fueling crime, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Said Mwema said in Dar es Salaam yesterday. In a statement signed by Police Force spokesperson Esaka Mugasa the IGP banned pool games in all bars throughout the country ’to curb possible causes of criminal activities.’ Mugasa directed all bar owners to enforce the ban or else face the long arm of the law. ”It has been established that playing pool game is associated with criminal activities- some players use the game as platform for planning criminal activities,” he said. Police investigations have revealed how criminal gangs use the activity to camouflage their planning of crime, he said. According to article 14 of the 2002 Act on alcoholic drinks, such games should not be played during working hours . ”This directive must be obeyed. We will follow up on its implementation throughout the country,” he said. He also said the IGP has directed all regional police commanders to supervise closely implementation of that directive. This directive must be implemented immediately and bar owners found to contravene it should be taken to task, the IGP said. He appealed to the general public to furnish the police with correct information on crime suspects.
